An opportunity for you to continue your study of God’s Word throughout the week…
For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
The main point of the centurion’s words in this passage was to recognize Jesus’ authority. He perceived Jesus’ relationship to sickness the same way he viewed his own relationship to his subordinates. There is no doubt that this man BELIEVED that Jesus could heal his servant by simply speaking a word that would command the sickness to leave his body.
Both the centurion and Jesus operated in a chain of command under the authority of others. In addition, they also had authority. The centurion was UNDER the authority of his superior and had authority OVER his soldiers. Jesus was UNDER the authority of the Father and had miraculous authority OVER sickness.
THOUGHT: In order to be of authority, you must be under authority.
