“Life Is Good”
1 John 4:9
“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.”
John is encouraging his audience to “live through” Christ. He wants them to understand the depth of what the love of God has done for them through Christ. C.S. Lewis said, “You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you.”
In reality, our relationship to God through Christ is a matter of life and death. In his gospel, John writes that anyone who has not believed in the name of the only Son of God is condemned already because of his or her unbelief (John 3:18). However, when we believe in Jesus Christ we experience freedom from the penalty of sin, which is death, and can “live though Him.”
The gift of God is life… and life is good! God is life, while all other things have life as a gift from Him. God possesses life intrinsically and eternally and He offers it to us through faith in Christ. However, be reminded that it is not the strength of our faith but the object of our faith (Jesus) that actually saves us. The amazing love of God is “made manifest among us” through Jesus Christ.
THOUGHT: Eternal life is not a place you go but a person you know.
