I just can’t hide my excitement about all this! This past Sunday, October 22nd, I became the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church of North Augusta. I am humbled to transition into this new role. For over five years, Wendy and I have been praying that God would prepare me to be a Senior Pastor, and that He would also prepare a church for me.

As I mentioned last Sunday from the pulpit, on March 18th of this year, I woke up at 3:28am. This was an unusual moment as I am a heavy sleeper and rarely wake up at night on my own. After a few moments, I curiously asked God why He had woken me up and what He wanted to tell me. I immediately heard a voice in my head that said, “I am going to give you a church.” The next day, I hesitantly talked with Wendy about it. I was skeptical of the experience actually being from God. I soon had clarity that it was His voice but had no idea it would be a church as amazing as this one!

After praying and talking with Wendy about it more, we realized that He was preparing us for what was to come. In the weeks that followed, God began revealing to us a few things we needed to remove from our lives and also a few areas that needed to be further developed. We committed to patiently wait on God to work this out in the way He saw fit. Only God could have orchestrated the events that led to this moment.

For Wendy and me the last five years have been quite a journey, including multiple steps of faith, following God’s voice. A close friend (who was coming to visit from out of town) recently asked me how to get to the Augusta area and how long it would take to get there. My response was … about 5-6 years. Start in Charlotte, NC, go through the mountains of Asheville, NC, and then stop by in Austin, TX. After that, you are almost there. Although, I didn’t come to FBCNA in 2016 to be the Senior Pastor, I clearly came to FBCNA to become the Senior Pastor.

I want to thank the people who have supported me over the years and during this process. It has been a great joy to serve at FBCNA as Pastor of Discipleship, “Interim-Interim” Pastor, Interim Pastor, and NOW I look forward to serving as Senior Pastor. I look forward to many years of doing life together with the people in this loving community of faith. Let’s turn a new page together in the life of this historic and vibrant church, A CHURCH THAT PRAYS. Wendy, Madi, Sarah, and I love you all very much and look forward to serving in this new capacity.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to HIM be glory in the church – by Christ Jesus to all generations – forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
